Implant Dentures Q & A

What are implant dentures?

Implant dentures have revolutionized dentures by using implants, artificial tooth roots made of titanium that bond with your natural bone to securely hold your dentures in place, so they fit comfortably, and provide stability.

You can opt for removable or fixed implant dentures. You’re able to take out the removable dentures for cleaning.

What are the different types of removable implant dentures?

There are several types of removable implant dentures, including:

Bar-retained implant dentures

Ball-retained implant dentures have a ball-shaped metal abutment on each implant that sits just above the gums. Round sockets in the bottom of the dentures are made to snap onto the balls easily.

Locator attachments

A plastic insert inside a metal housing is fitted inside the denture. That allows the denture to attach to the locator attachments.

Do implant dentures require special care?

It’s important to keep your implant dentures clean every day with gentle brushing and flossing. Immediately following surgery, be careful to avoid putting any pressure on the surgical incision area.

If you use an electric toothbrush, you may need to wait 1-2 weeks before you can brush your new dentures.

The bone and gum tissue around the implant dentures should be kept clean to lower the chance of possible infection. You might be given additional cleaning aids to take home, and regular dental check-ups will be scheduled to ensure the maintenance of your new dentures.

One of our Wellness dentists will guide you through the necessary aftercare and what to expect once your implant dentures are in place.

Implant dentures are safe, sturdy, and rapidly gaining popularity. They serve as the roots of your dentures, and you never have to worry about your dentures slipping out again.
